life of the party

Cheryl turned 20 three weeks ago and to celebrate, we reminisced her days in France during the summer by having lunch at The Wine Connection along Robertson Walk. It was an afternoon of cheese (think: creamy brie de meux) and prosciutto on a platter. We also savoured every bit of that crunchy salad and veggies-w-blue-cheese-dip. It was something different from our usual fare of cafe grub and the ambience was splendid. And as usual we counted the days from when we last met and worked backwards, filling one another in with what we've missed to-date. There always seems to be so much to say but we would both not know where to start, or rather, some things just get lost in translation. Spent the next few hours gushing over the food, clinking glasses, opening presents and cards. It was definitely a really pleasant Saturday to spend on a (pre-)birthday and we left the restaurant satisfied (in our tummies too).

So last year we crossed over the midnight mark and into both our birthdays together. What changed this year was the mess the six fruit tarts I bought for Cheryl made because I put them in my bag while trying to get to her place before the clock stroke twelve. They tasted yummy nonetheless (sometimes you have to look past the aesthetics hahahaha). Then followed more laughter and chatter till we were both too tired to speak before we finally called it a night.

We had breakfast around the Tiong Bahru enclave the next morning before the birthday girl collected her birthday cake (can I please add that I didn't even get to taste it...) cos boy it sure looked really really pretty.

It's only the second year that we're actually celebrating our birthdays (no, singing a birthday song in school does not count) together but it seems like we've had this tradition for a long time. It's pretty unbelievable how much we've grown (and so much closer too) over the years and I cannot reiterate enough how incredibly thankful I am to be holding onto this very, very precious friendship. People may disagree but I do still think that we've got a million and one things in common (look at the amount of food we eat when we are together hahaha) and among other things, I'm glad that she's always got my back (just like I have hers).

Thank you for being one of the biggest blessings in my life.
