People often ask me how is it like having parents who work in the military. The million dollar questions: "Are they particularly strict? Do they command you at home?" To be honest, I would say my parents are perhaps the least stern with me. Ever since we learnt to look after ourselves, the freedom my parents have entrusted me with is pretty vast (think: not being mad if I stay out late because I told them where I was). Granted, they are strict when they think we've crossed the line (they are parents after all...) but turning 20 this year also means having them trust me wholeheartedly and know that I won't get into (too much) trouble.

The summer's been swallowing me whole and I haven't been spending much time with them. Even so, I'm just really glad they've always backed my decisions and stood by me regardless of the mistakes I make.

My dad was promoted a few weeks back and I left camp halfway to attend his ceremony. I can't describe how immensely proud I am of him for coming this far. More than 30 years in the army and he's reached the pinnacle of his career (I think).
