Lisbon and Porto, Portugal

This is me back with my long-overdue travelogue. After my return from Sevilla and Granada in December, Han and my parents came to visit me in Lisbon!!!!! At that point I probably haven't seen them in 5 months and we didn't really Skype that much the entire time either. So obviously I was extremely excited to finally see them after such a long time. I'm also proud to say that I planned their itinerary for them -- ok it wasn't perfect, especially since my mom really, really hated the hills (sorry). I'd expected us to do way more walking than we actually did for the amount of food and wine we were ingesting three meals a day... But of course with the parents we took more public transport and hailed for Uber/Cabify than I had the past few months lol. Plus without the student budget, I could eat everything I wanted on the menu ;) To say I gained the most weight during the period my parents visited would be a serious understatement hahahaha.
I brought them around Lisbon and showed them how their very-dependent daughter is a changed young lady (hahahaha I'm joking). We took a plane to Porto for 10 euros each instead of the speed-rail because we wanted to save some time. Porto was so much more than I'd expected!! The two days we spent there were absolutely splendid and I really really liked the city. It's very different from Lisbon and that really surprised me. We also spent a night at my apartment before leaving for Spain the next day due to a delayed flight - that was one helluvan experience (also my first delayed flight on exchange lol).
My favourite part of Lisbon's city centre -- Praça do Comércio, a huge square near the Tagus River
And of course we had to go to Pastéis de Belém (look at the spread I wouldn't be ordering like this if weren't for my parents hahahaha)
Jéronimos Monastery
The gorgeous harbour at Belém (the weather was perf)
This!! Sunset!!
Both of us contending for Glutton-of-the-Family
The main attraction of Porto (pretty sure this was built after Amsterdam's). Porto is a coastal city in northwest Portugal and about an hour's plane ride away from Lisbon. It runs along the Duoro River and is especially known for its port wine production.
The view of the Dom Luís I Bridge
São Bento Railway Station is historically known for its tile panels that depict the history of Portugal
And of course, Livraria Lello -- Porto's oldest bookstore that also inspired J.K. Rowling's design of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter series (she lived in Porto for two years)
The Dom Luís I Bridge was designed by the same architect who built the Eiffel Tower in Paris
Very typical scenes of the man behind my mom's profile pictures
The last time I went on a holiday with my family was a few years back to Taiwan and until today I still miss it! I rarely felt any sign of homesickness the entire time I was on exchange and that truly surprised me but I was definitely over the moon to see everyone after so long :')
