I had food-poisoning on my first two days in Kraków (most probably from the super salty Chinese meal we had in Prague the day before) but that definitely didn't stop us from having fun ;) Okay not counting the night I told Daryl I really can't go out for drinks because of my fever and the guy said "it's actually all in your head". Tsk where is the TLC @#$%^&*(&^% hahahahaha okay okay we're good it's all cool.
Anyway our hostel at Kraków was kind of a letdown compared to the previous one in Prague. Let's Rock Hostel (tell me about it) was great in terms of location (5 minutes from the Main Square) and its reception staff. But I really didn't like how we had to keep our bags under our beds (a metal double-decker) in a noisy metal cage. It was super disruptive to everyone around whenever we wanted to take our bags out. I got hit on my head when the metal lid fell btw... food poisoning and possible concussion wtf (ok I just had a bruise no concussion thank god). Also, the room was a little small for 10 people (on double decks!) and the staircase leading up to the hostel wasn't very clean (it looked quite dodgy). Breakfast was provided though. It wasn't a great buffet spread but it was enough to fill us up.
So Kraków... it was a gem. People tell me that Kraków is definitely more worth it than Warsaw and I wasn't disappointed.
Daryl and I took the tram to Zakrzowek and walked/hiked for a bit before we came to a huge patch of greenery surrounded by fences. We continued walking until we found holes in the fences (a little sharp) that we could fit in. And this was what we saw after more walking (into the woods lol). Its a beautiful quarry lake where people snorkel and swim (there's an actual snorkel school down there).
IF THIS ISN'T ONE OF THE MOST PRISTINE WATERS YOU'VE EVER SEEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.
We scaled the rocks (it was a little dangerous but yolo hahaha) and found a part where we could lay our stuff. There was a group of youth swimming and sunbathing nearby as well. I got pretty tanned on the left side of my body because I was watching Daryl find the Kraków monster (Lochness monster but in Zakrzowek geddit) hahahaha of course he didn't find it. I thought this was the highlight of our trip in this city :')
They sold these bagels everywhere but it was a pity I didn't get to try them (because everything I ate I felt like puking ugh I hate food poisoning).
This is the Main Square of Old Town. The weekend we were there was also the end of the week the Pope visited Kraków for World Youth Day so you can imagine how crowded it was.
We climbed a tower to get this view and okay after awhile all the Old Towns in Eastern Europe look the same. But still breathtaking (breathless from climbing too) nonetheless.
This was a huge wall of graffiti at the Jewish Quarter of Kazimierz District. They called it the 'ghetto' in the past but it was a different meaning from the 'ghetto' we know today.
Bought these for 2 euros and couldn't finish them damn it.
We visited the Wielizka Salt Mine (had to queue for 2 hours because of the crowd) and climbed down nineteen storeys (65 metres) to get to the visitors' site. If you're not claustrophobic I highly recommend!! It's chilly in there because there's no sunlight at all. I found it extremely fascinating how the entire town depended on the salt mine for a living (jobs etc.) and how the miners were transported up and down everyday. Much respect for them, really.
There's a huge chapel in there that is famous for wedding receptions and other private functions. The walls are made of salt and they are carved to resemble the wooden carvings in churches aboveground. This Spanish kid photobombed us so we invited him to the party hahahaha.
'The Last Supper' carved entirely out of salt on the wall in the church! We spent the entire day underground and even went further down to the museum to look at salt rocks and the olden tools/machineries the people used in the past. Oh the part that we walked through is only 1% of the entire of the salt mine. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW HUGE IT IS?
"AUNTIE!!!!!!" (inside joke where we shouted this whenever we spotted this lady) but she is so cool!!!! She was obviously the oldest in our pub crawl group but she sure knows how to party ;)
Ah I would love one of these right now!!!
And this!!!
Pretty sure Daryl doesn't remember taking this because he was so tipsy on the way back to our hostel that night hahahahaha.
A little bummed we didn't get to go to Auschwitz Concentration Camp because it was either close or too crowded on the days we planned to go. Nonetheless, the salt mine was also worth the visit so #noragrets. I would say that Kraków is a must-go if you're visiting Eastern Europe!
