My return from Top of the Gulf also concluded the 28 days Bren and I spent apart. Some people say you feel homesick after a couple of weeks of being way but in contrast, I always feel the strongest pang of longing in the first one week. Of course, it gets easier once you're busy. We concluded that the one having fun will definitely feel time pass faster, whereas the one stuck at home performing the same old mundane activities have it the hardest. I beg to differ.
Anyway, so like the previous year, we always get a weekend off of sailing after we come home from TOGR. I mentioned before how I was envious of my friends who were having brunch on weekends while I was on the way to training, but this time, I had two weekends worth of brunch-sessions with Bren, and I wanted to make every second count.
The day after I got home from Bangkok, we headed to The Providore at Mandarin Gallery. It wasn't brunch per say, definitely not, at two in the afternoon. But I ordered a lobster mac 'n' cheese which tasted divine (I wished they put more cheese than they already have though!).
Two Saturdays ago, we took a cab down to Rider's Cafe at Bukit Timah Saddle Club for brunch. It was an extremely sweltering day with the sun beating on our backs mercilessly. We barely admired the horses in the stables because the cafe provided better shelter. The food was good though, or perhaps we're just always hungry. I only wish the cafe was a little more accessible, because it took us almost half an hour to get a cab out of there. We were pretty thankful to be back in the air-conditioned malls in town afterwards.
I always relish in good food, peaceful ambience and not forgetting, my favourite company. Weekends are so precious to me, and the best thing part of them would be spending it with people who can make me smile for hours on end.
